IE Grocery List

Guide

How IE Grocery List works

Free, on your phone, starting in Corona. Give it your grocery list and it finds which nearby stores are worth the drive this week.

Most price tools name the cheapest store for each item and leave you to drive all over town. IE Grocery List counts your time and your gas as part of the cost. It offers three plans and adds a second or third store only when the saving is worth the extra miles and minutes. It always sends you to a specific store with an address, never just a chain.

Then it rides along: one store at a time, the items to buy there, the prices, any loyalty-card or coupon conditions, and a check-off list that works with no signal. When you finish, it records what the trip saved you.

  1. 1Set up once

    1. Sign in with Google or an email address. The header shows My lists, a piggy bank for savings, and a gear for settings.
    2. Tap the gear. Under Locations, type a home address and tap Save, or tap “Use my current location as home” and allow the location prompt. The page confirms which market you are in.
    3. Under Trips, choose the most stores per trip: 1, 2, 3, or Flexible. Flexible adds a stop only when the saving is worth it. Slide how far you will drive.
    4. Under Stores near you, tap a store once to prefer it, again to block it, a third time to clear. Blocked stores never appear in a plan.
  2. 2Make your list

    1. Tap My lists, name a list, and tap Start.
    2. Photograph the paper list: tap Scan a photo, then Take a photo, with the list flat in good light. About ten seconds later the items are filled in. Photo scanning is switched on market by market; if the Scan button is not there yet, type or paste the list.
    3. Or type items one at a time. Quantities are understood: “eggs 2 doz” becomes Eggs × 2 dozen. Paste a list takes one item per line.
    4. Items marked “Check this” were hard to read. Tap any item to fix the name, set how many, pick any brand or a specific one, add a package size, or say no substitutes.
    5. Tap Confirm list. Each item gets its product name. If one could mean several things, chips ask which one. Items with a nearby price show the cheapest one found and any conditions such as a loyalty card or a digital coupon.
  3. 3Get your plan

    1. Tap Build my shopping plan. Choose where the trip starts: Home, Work, Current location, or an address. Keep “Bring me back to where I started” for a round trip.
    2. Three plans appear. Fastest: fewest stops, least driving. Balanced, the recommended one: real savings without a detour that eats them. Max Savings: the lowest grocery bill among trips still worth making.
    3. Each card shows the total, the estimated saving, the stores in order, and the miles and minutes. Balanced and Max Savings also show the extra minutes and miles versus Fastest, so the trade is always visible.
    4. Tap a card to see every stop with its address, drive time, items, prices, and subtotal. Tap the X beside a store to rebuild the plan without it.
    5. Tap Choose. Then Start shopping, or Open route in Maps to hand the whole route to Google Maps.
  4. 4Shop

    1. Shopping Mode shows one store at a time: name, address, a Navigate button, and the items to buy there with their prices and conditions.
    2. Tap the circle beside each item as it goes in the cart. The bar at the bottom keeps a running total. This screen keeps working with no signal in the aisle.
    3. Tap Next stop when the cart is full, and Finish trip at the last store.
    4. The savings page shows what the trip saved compared with typical prices nearby, this week, this month, and all time.
    5. Next week, tap Reuse on the old list to start from it. Add IE Grocery List to the home screen to open it like an app.
